How to compile bash?

You can first run

cd bash-4.2

./configure --prefix=/usr                     \
        --bindir=/bin                     \
        --htmldir=/usr/share/doc/bash-4.2 \
        --without-bash-malloc             \
        --with-installed-readline

make

make install

Problem

How to compile bash? I did small modifications to the code I got from http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/bash/bash-4.2.tar.gz. I want to see those changes. Can anyone please point to me simple steps to compile bash?
